Karibu sana! Welcome!

Or more appropriately, "welcome back" to Irene Wanjiru, for a second summer as artist-in-residence at the Spillway Fund.

We are delighted to have Irene return to pursue the work she began last summer, exploring in wood and stone, as well as in painting and collage, the complex relationships between people, animals, and the environments and communities we share.

Irene is a powerful voice in a dynamic contemporary art scene in East Africa. Her work over the past two summers offers a unique opportunity to witness the results of a master artist in dialogue with the materials and natural forms of an environment far from home.

We are thrilled to present Irene's vision in an exhibition on August 27-8 in Portland, Maine, and to announce that proceeds from the show will help support Portland Public Library's solar power initiatives.
